Spencer Green got an opportunity to read “We Were Young and Carefree”, the autobiography of two-time Tours de France winner, Laurent Fignon. Fignon is most widely remembered for losing the 1989 Tours by eight seconds, the narrowest margin for defeat in the competition’s history. He cycled 3,285.3 kilometres at an average 52 km/hr and lost by eight seconds. 8! It crucified him for the rest of his life.
